A note about summer camps
Many of my clients are summer camps. This is a challenge and it is also an opportunity.
The challenge is to make each project unique, even when clients have much in common.
The opportunity is to get to know one segment of the market better.
Here's what it means to you
Summer camps have a wide variety of users. Children are probably the first who come to mind, but their parents and grandparents also visit the camp web sites.
Not surprisingly, each user group visits with different goals.
- Kids want to do something fun and interesting.
- Prospective parents and grandparents want to learn something about the camp, what they stand for, what the kids do, etc.
- Parents of enrolled campers want to get something like a Health Form, Wait List update, or a photo of their child during the summer.
Any user's interest will drop off quickly if they are frustrated so a camp's web site must facilitate a positive experience for each user, despite the disparity of goals.
Working with summer camps has pushed me creatively - not just to distinguish each camp from the others - but to meet the needs of their many users.
